A fire broke out in Kutupalong Refugee Camp, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh on April 26.

It started in the market inside the camp at approximately 4:00 am local time. The blaze completely destroyed around 15 shops that are own and operated by Rohingya refugees.

The shops sold electronic equipment such as batteries, solar panels, clothes and other essential materials for refugees.

There is no report of physical injuries resulted from the blaze which was extinguished by Ukhiya fire brigade. The cause of the fire has yet not been established.

The shops played a vital role, particularly during the Covid-19 lockdown when Rohingya refugees practise social distancing and observe the month of fasting during the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Sunday, Rohingya in Bangladesh’s refugee camps observe the second day of fasting in the month of Ramadan which lasts from dawn to dust.
